England clinches first Twenty20

CARDIFF (September 06, 2010): Pakistan's latest match in their controversial tour of Britain ended in a five-wicket Twenty20 defeat by world champions England at Sophia Gardens here on Sunday. England, set a seemingly modest 127 for victory, collapsed to 62 for five.




Spot-fixing: ICC to appoint independent commissioner
NEW DELHI (September 06, 2010): The International Cricket Council (ICC) will appoint an independent commissioner to determine the fate of the three Pakistani players fighting spot-fixing charges.



Yasir framed by reporter incognito
LONDON (September 06, 2010): Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed insisted Sunday he had been misled by an undercover reporter and was only repeating allegations he had read about when he said his team-mates were corrupt. The News of the World newspaper said Hameed had "sensationally confirmed" its report last week that some Pakistan players had accepted money to fix aspects of the final Test match against England in London.



Imran Khan laments new allegations
KARACHI (September 06, 2010): Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan on Sunday called for stronger national institutions to prevent corruption scandals undermining the country's favourite sport in the future. "This whole episode of cricket reflects what is happening in the country," Khan told reporters in Pakistan's central city of Multan during a flood relief campaign.



Atherton pleads for Aamer leniency
LONDON (September 06, 2010): Former England captain Michael Atherton has urged leniency for Pakistan's Mohammad Aamer in the fixing scandal that has shaken world cricket because the teenager was in "the grip of evil".



Wajid wants life bans if players proven guilty
LONDON (September 06, 2010): Three Pakistan cricketers facing spot-fixing accusations should be banned for life and prosecuted if the charges against them are proven, the country's top diplomat in London said on Sunday. Pakistan Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif have been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following last week's allegations in the News of the World newspaper.



Former West Indies bowler doubts latest fixing allegations
CARDIFF (September 06, 2010): Former West Indies bowler Ian Bradshaw doubts his team's win in the 2004 Champions Trophy semi-finals was fixed in the latest allegation of corruption to hit the Pakistan team.



Afridi says Yasir mentally a teen
CARDIFF (September 06, 2010): Pakistan one-day captain Shahid Afridi on Sunday said Yasir Hameed has the mental age of a teen, after the batsman was apparently caught out by an undercover reporter. Hameed denied telling a British newspaper that his team-mates were corrupt after apparently being caught out by the News of the World describing a culture of betting scams.



Hameed denies accusing players in betting row
LONDON (September 05, 2010): Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed denied Saturday having told a British newspaper that his team-mates on the England tour were involved in a betting scam. The News of The World quoted Hameed in its edition due out Sunday as saying that some Pakistan players were fixing in "almost every match".



Aamer, Asif axed from awards list
KARACHI (September 05, 2010): Embattled Pakistan bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif, currently embroiled in a corruption storm, have been dropped from the International Cricket Council's annual awards list. "The pair's nominations have been withdrawn and the jury has been informed," an ICC spokesman confirmed to AFP without giving further details. Aamer was in the running for the best emerging player award while Asif was listed in the best cricketer category.
